Auchentoshan Distillery
Auchentoshan Distillery is located between the River Clyde and the main road from Glascow to Loch Lomond, in the Dunbartonshire estate.
Established in 1823 by an engineer from Greenock named Thorne, the distillery changed owners two times (in 1878 and 1903) before being forced to halt production during World War II.
River Clyde and it’s shipyards where bombed and the distillery itself got damaged as a warehouse was destroyed.
Later, as the production resumed the distillery would change hands several times (1960, 1969, 1984) until its current owners, Suntory, bought Morrison Bowmore in 1994
The word “Auchentoshan” translates from Gaelic as “the field in the corner”, and as a Lowland Single Malt, it’s unique character is based on a different approach when it comes to distillation: Auchentoshan is the only Scottish distillery that uses exclusively triple-distillation.
