Cooley distillery
Cooley Distillery is located on the Cooley Peninsula in County Louth. John Teeling is the founder in 1987, by converting a plant used to make alcohol from potatoes, into a whiskey distillery.
John Teeling is the descendant of Walter Teeling who has been in the whiskey industry since 1782.
By 1987 Cooley distillery would also buy Kilbeggan distillery and in 1988 the brand of Tyrconell would be bought as well.
Tyrconell was originally produced in the old Watt’s Distillery which was closed in 1925.
The distillery finally got sold to Beam Inc. which in 2014 was also bought from Suntory and is renamed as Beam Suntory .
Connemara, Locke’s and 2 Gingers are some of the brands that the distillery produces as today.
