The Crown Royal’s Gimli distillery
The distillery responsible for the production of Crown Royal is located in Gimli, Manitoba on the edge of Lake Winnipeg.
Founded in 1968, Gimli distillery covers a massive area near the small town of Gimli. The town was founded mainly by immigrants from Iceland. Several people moved from Iceland to Canada in order to avoid the volcanic eruptions in their homeland. They gave their new home the name “Gimli” which in Icelandic translates as “safe from fire”
As Crown Royal was created in 1939, the initial production was taking place in Waterloo distillery before it moved all of its production to Gimli. The area of the new site includes 51 warehouses where the annual production of approximately 33 million liters rest for maturation before the blending process.
