William Mackenzie ran the distillery until he passed away in 1865. His widow leased the distillery to a banker of Aberlour, named James Fleming and in 1879 Mackenzie’s son, Thomas and Fleming formed the Mackenzie company.

In 1884 a great refurbishment was completed and for the first time in Scotland the Pagoda shaped chimney was installed.

In 1917 a great fire almost destroyed the distillery and it was forced to close for 3 years, until 1920 when it reopened.

In 1925, DCL would become the new owners and in 1959 a second fire caused severe damage. One year later in 1960, the distillery was refurbished again and two more stills are added, with the total number reaching to 6.

Current owners Diageo are using almost all of the distillery’s production in blends, where in a rare case bottling, a 16 year old expression of Dailuaine distillery was released in 1991, as part of the flora and fauna range.
