Born in 1805 John Dewar joined his relative Alex MacDonald in his wine merchant business at the age of 23. By 1846, he would set up his own company with whisky blending and selling as his main occupation.

After John Dewar passed away in 1880, his two sons, John Alexander and Tommy Dewar took over and over the next years they achieved to make the “Dewar’s” name known all across the globe.

Tommy would start to travel around the world in 1892 in order to help the brand name grow in reputation with great success. John Alexander would take care of the business in Scotland and the brothers would build Aberfeldy distillery in 1896 to have access to malt for their blends.

Dewar’s white label would be launched in 1899. In 1915 Deward’s merged with Buchanan & Co to form Buchanan – Dewar and 10 years later the company would become part of DCL.

Finally, in 1998 John Dewar&Sons was sold to Bacardi.
