Fettercairn Distillery
Fettercairn distillery is located in Fettercairn village, Aberdeenshire. It was founded in 1824, by Sir Alexander Ramsay.
In 1829 the distillery was sold to the Gladstone family. William Gladstone, son of the family, served as Prime Minister four times in the end of the 19th century.
The Gladstone family allowed the distillery to be run by tenants until 1923 when it was sold to Ross & Coulter. During their time as owners, the distillery was mainly mothballed until 1936 when it was sold to Associated Scottish Distillers.
A new change in ownership status took place in 1954 when Tom Scott Sutherland acquired the distillery and following an increase in demand for whisky from the distillery, the stills were increased from two to four in 1966.
Tomintoul-Glenlivet bought the distillery in 1971 only for a short two year period, as Whyte & Mackay became the new owners in 1973.
Although Fettercairn whisky was a key ingredient for blends, it always released single malt expressions, until today as the approximately 2,5 million liter annual production supports a new single malt whisky range from the distillery.
