Jardine had the vision to create and release the first single malt whisky produced in Canada and Northern America.
He traveled to Scotland, and particularly to Bowmore distillery. There, he got for himself not only valuable information regarding whisky distillation but even the equipment required for mashing and distilling.

It was not a surprise at all that Jardine had Scotch Whisky on his mind when he made plans for his own distillery, as it is placed in Nova Scotia, which translates from Latin as “New Scotland”.

Still people in Scotland, and especially people from SWA (Scotch Whisky Association) were not happy at all. Before even the first bottle was released under the name “Glen Breton”, the SWA sued the distillery for the use of the word “Glen”. They believed that the use of this word misleads potential customers, as until today only Scotch whiskies use the word “Glen” in their labels.

The battle was long and finally, according to Canadian Courts, Glenora was allowed to use the “Glen Breton” label.

Lauchie MacLean acquired the distillery in 1994 and are the current owners.
