Springbank Distillery
William Reid was already in close contact with the Mitchell family, as he was married to a member of the family and in 1837 he sold the distillery to his relatives John and William Mitchell.
The Mitchell family are also the current owners offering a unique story of a family grown distillery up today.
Campbeltown style whisky made a great success during 1800s and the early 1900s and that is the period that the area earned the title of “Scotland’s Whisky Capital”
Good times don’t last forever and all the distilleries in Campbeltown suffered during the next years. Several distilleries closed and Springbank itself had to be mothballed from 1979 to 1987.
Another unique feature for the Springbank distillery is that It’s the only distillery in Scotland to malt, distill, mature and bottle on the same site reaching a capacity of approximately 1 million liters per year.
