The original name of the distillery was “Ledaig distillery” and in 1823 it gained its legitimate license for whisky production. The distillery remained active and made its mark but the decrease in whisky demand, forced the distillery to stop production in 1837.

The following years, there were several efforts from different owners to resume production but all of them led to failure.

It was only until 1993, when Burn Stewart Distillers bought the distillery and the facilities.Production resumed, and after Distell Group bought it in 2013 it only closed for a short period for maintenance and renovation.

Unpeated barley is used for the Tobermory single malt expressions, while peated barley is used for the Ledaig single malt expressions. Part of the annual production is used for blends as well.
