The Heaven Hill Distillery
Heaven Hill distillery is located in Bardstown, Kentucky. It was founded by a group of investors in 1935.
The Heaven Hill Bernheim distillery is considered to be the largest family owned Bourbon distillery, as its production reaches the level of 1,300 barrels a day.
The original distillery was the Heaven Hill Springs distillery founded in 1935. The Shapira family along with different investors found it, before the family bought out the other investors’ shares in 1937.
The first bottling was released in 1939, named “Old Heaven Hill”. The master distillers from the beginning of the distillery until today have been members of the Beam Family.
The brand became quite popular and the distillery expanded in order to keep up with the demand.
Unfortunately a great fire in November 7, 1996 destroyed several rickhouses and facilities. The view of the accident was described as a “River of Flaming Whiskey”
With the help of other Bourbon Distilleries, Heaven Hill continued to operate and in 1999 the Bernheim distillery was bought.
Fermenting, mashing and distilling takes place in the new distillery, while aging and bottling takes place in the old facilities.
With continuous demand for Bourbon, the distillery keeps expanding up to today.
