This 15 year old from Longmorn now sadly discontinued and replaced by the 16 Year Old. This superb malt has received a lot of distinctions and high scores. It has undergone 15 years of maturation and this has given it a beautiful development, with earthy and exotic aromas of spices in the nose and a pleasant feeling of roundness in the mouth.
Longmorn distillery is located in Longmorn, Moray. It was founded in 1893 by John Duff.
John Duff worked in Glendronach and Glenlossie distilleries as well before trying his luck in South Africa and USA. After these unsuccessful efforts,he returned to Scotland.
Five years after founding Longmorn, Duff built the nearby BenRiach distillery as well. Again, things didn’t go as planned and he was forced to sell his business to James Grant one year later in 1899.
In 1920, young Masataka Taketsuru who traveled to Scotland to learn about whisky distillation, arrived at Longmorn distillery to be trained.
In 1970 a merger between the Grant family and Hill Thompson formed the Glenlivet distilleries and in the next four years the stills in Longmorn distillery are doubled, rising from 4 to 6 in 1972 and from 6 to 8 in 1974.
Seagram acquired the distillery in 1977 while since 2001 until today, Pernod Ricard became the new owners.
The annual capacity of over 4,5 million liters is used mainly in blends, and a much smaller portion is used for single malt expressions.
