Part of the annually released "Distiller's Edition" from Oban distillery. Distilled in 2001 and double matured in Montilla Fino Casks before being bottled in 2016.
Oban distillery is located in the west coast port of Oban. It was founded in 1793 by two brothers, John and Hugh Stevenson.
Initially the Stevenson brothers set up a brewery in the place and whisky distillation began one year later. The distillery would stay in the family’s hands until 1866 when it was sold to Peter Cumstie.
John Walter Higgin would become the next owner in 1883 and the arrival of the railway from Glascow in 1888 proved to be a turning point since further distribution of the whisky produced in Oban, helped its reputation grow.
Alexander Edward bought the distillery 10 years later in 1898 and in 1930 DCL (now known as Diageo) acquired the distillery up to today.
Although Oban has a great reputation today, it is considered to be one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland, with only 2 stills.
Furthermore the distillery never gets near its potential capacity, in order to maintain its unique character.
