The first dedicated whisky distillery in Canada is believed to be founded in 1769. Scottish immigrants carried their experience in whisky distillation and soon grain spirits would become popular across the whole country.

The following years more than 150 whisky distilleries would operate and experiment in whisky production. It is said that at that time, rye was added in the mash, providing a unique flavor that is considered to be a trademark characteristic of Canadian whiskies until today.

The Prohibition in the U.S. caused several problems in all whisky producers around the world, including Canada, but the industry has now recovered.

Every distillery uses its own mash recipe, using different grains like barley, rye, corn and wheat to create its own unique character and several flavor expressions to explore.
