Willowbank distillery (also known as Dunedin) ceased operations in 1997 and marked the end of an era in New Zealand’s whisky production, a tradition that would go back in the 1800s in spirits distillation.

Greg Ramsay and the New Zealand Whisky Collection took action in 2009. By acquiring 443 barrels from the closed distillery and presenting new bottlings, interest in whisky production and consumption rose once again.

Thomson distillery that was founded in 2014 and Cardrona distillery nowadays present their own whisky expressions,offer us new territories to explore and make the future seem a little more brighter when it comes to whisky development in this unique place.
