Eastern Asia has its own tradition in distilling spirits. After all it is the first place in the world that sugarcane was grown, so a rum tradition was already present.

Western spirits would reach this area earlier through trading missions, while after Japan’s beginning in whisky distilling, access became easier.

In 2005 it was Kavalan, the first dedicated whisky distillery in Taiwan that faced the challenge of whisky distillation and maturation in a tropical climate.

Their expectations regarding the pure water sources and the mountain landscape that supported the maturation process were reasonable and justified and it took only a short period of time for Kavalan distillery to take its rightful place amongst world’s most known for their quality range of whisky distilleries.
