Kavalan distillery is named after the Kavalan people, the indigenous residents of Yilan County.

Tien-Tsai Lee was the man who dreamed of a whisky distillery in Taiwan. He traveled to Scotland and Japan to broaden his skills and with the support of King Car Group, Kavalan distillery was founded.

They took advantage of the meltwaters of Snow Mountain as their water source while the Taiwanese climate with intense heat, high humidity along with sea and mountain breezes offered a great landscape for whisky maturation.

The distillery very quickly grew in reputation, as almost any new release was an award winning one while the distillery itself would be awarded as well.

In order to reach all these achievements, the distillery mastered the maturation process in different types of casks, like ex-bourbon, brandy, moscatel, port and almost all categories of sherry.
