Part of the "Very Old Scotch Whisky" bottling series from Ballantine's. None of the whiskies that were blended has matured for less than 21 years.
Ballantine’s blended Scotch whisky is one of the top selling Scotch whiskies in the world. It’s story goes back in 1827 when George Ballantine began his operation in Edinburgh.
The operation would be extended to wine and spirits and by 1865 George would found a second and bigger shop in Glasgow.
Here in Glasgow George began creating his own whisky blends that met almost immediate success and as a result along with the help of his son George Jr. he began trading it under the name “George Ballantine &Son”
In 1896, George Ballantine &Son would get a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria and in 1910 “Ballantine’s Finest” would be launched.
In the following years the brand would change several hands. It left the family in 1919 when Barclay and MacKinlay bought it.
In 1935 Hiram Walker would be in charge. After acquiring two distilleries in order to provide ingredients for the Ballantine’s blend, he also built a grain distillery in Dumbarton.
The brand would be later sold again until 2005 when Pernod Ricard became owners up today.
